Outstanding achievement award for leadership and development.
Thursday 26th Feb 2009. Topaz, the country’s biggest fuels and convenience retailer has been recognized as one of the best companies to work for in the country for the second year in a row.
Once again the Irish owned and managed company is the only fuels and convenience retailer to make it into the ’50 Best Workplaces in Ireland’ as assessed by Great Place to Work® Institute Ireland.
This year Topaz was also awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award for its Leadership Development programme ‘Growing from Within”, which actively encourages employees to develop their careers within the company.
The Best Companies study sets out to recognize the finest employers and therefore the most satisfied workforces in Ireland.
Paul Candon, Human Resources Director at Topaz said; “We are absolutely thrilled to be among the Best Workplaces in Ireland and to be recognized as an employer of choice by our employees. The passion, drive and commitment shown by all our 1,300 staff is the key to our success, making Topaz the vibrant can do organisation it is.”
Candon said the award for its ‘Growing from Within’ programme was particularly pleasing. “We constantly promote a strong learning and development culture which focuses on growing our people up through the business and enabling them to reach their true potential. Nearly all of the company’s station managers started as night, sales or deli assistants while this year alone we have promoted 52 supervisors to assistant manager” he said.
The Tanáiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan described making the list, during the current global economic downturn as a ‘superb achievement’; “It is clear that your exceptional commitment to ensuring that the policies implemented and attitudes evident in your organization have inspired your staff and made it a great place to work” she said.
