Truck re-fuelling stop with 22 fast-fill pumps and only truck-wash in city centre to begin trading over coming days
Monday 5th Nov 2007
Topaz Energy and Dublin Port Company will tomorrow open phase one of Ireland’s largest fuelling station for business. Truckers will be able to avail of unrivalled re-fuelling facilities situated at the gateway to the Dublin Port Tunnel, and by the end of the week, a service bay with truck wash facilities – the only one of its kind in central Dublin – will be up and running.
In July of this year, Topaz Energy and Dublin Port Company signed a €7 million deal to open a European motorway style service station at the 4.5 acre site, with facilities including fuel, washrooms, a restaurant and restrooms – the largest of its kind in Ireland. The station will be fully operational early next year.
Dublin Port Company committed to funding the building and infrastructure costs while Topaz Energy – the owner of both the Shell and Statoil brands in Ireland – will be responsible for the operation of the complex itself. Topaz Energy won the contract following a competitive procurement process undertaken by Dublin Port Company.
From today, the station will feature 22 pumps across 6 islands, all serving fuel at high speed (130 litres per minute) on both sides. Parking spaces for up to 48 trucks are also available.
Danny Murray, Chief Executive of Topaz Energy, commented on the announcement: “Obviously, we’re delighted to have opened the Dublin Port service station. Given that well in excess of one million people pass through Dublin Port each year, our stated intention to begin work on such a facility was warmly welcomed by both the haulage industry and general public. We intend to provide them with world-class, innovative and customer-focused services unparalleled in the Irish fuel industry”.
Adding to these remarks, Michael Sheary, Chief Financial Officer of Dublin Port Company said: “We’ve invested over €185 million in port facilities over the past ten years to keep pace with the requirements of our increasing volume of customers. The infrastructure has improved considerably over the last number years and today’s opening marks a further welcome development for all port customers.”
